As many of you might recall, TGPWEBKING.CA came under cyber attack in early September 2007.
A notice was posted about this on page 23 of the TGP.
We have since removed that notice because some thought it inappropriate.
This page will be used to tell you what's going on and to keep you updated.
This is what happened:
We first began noticing small glitches in our servers' behaviour on 12 September 07.
By the 13th, we found ourselves under sophisticated attack.
And, eventhough, our security system held up, our DNS-servers were not as fortunate.
You might ask, "What is a DNS-server?"
DNS-servers are complex computers which resolve your "domain name" for the benefit of other computers.
Our "domain name", for example, is tgpwebking.ca
DNS-servers translate our signals and materials into data Internet Service Providers can understand.
Our "domain name" is then "resolved" (or translated) so your computer can decode our signals and put them on your monitor.
Pretty much, our DNS-servers were gutted and damaged beyond repair.
Unfortunately, it takes two of them for us to be online. And, they're very expensive.
We posted news about this on page 23 of the TGP. You might have seen it?
We asked our surfers to help us stay online by supporting our advertisers.
And by making use of TGPWEBKING.CA Video-On-Demand Theatre.
Every time you pay to watch videos at the theatre, we make a small commission from that.
Every time you join one of our advertisers' membership/pay sites, commission again.
That's how we pay the bills.
Our thanks to those of you who came through for us.
We were able to stay online.
Our aim at TGPWEBKING.CA is to just "break even".
If we cannot make our expenses, a chunk of change has to come out of my pocket.
When that happens, even Kent has to kick in. Otherwise, we'll sink.
Our expenses are considerable.
We must pay "content providers" for the photos you view.
We must also pay "bandwidth".
Some might ask, "What is bandwidth?"
In simplest terms, bandwidth is the amount of energy (electrical) required to transmit internet data.
For example, if a photo's size is 100KB, it costs 100KB of bandwidth every time someone views that photo.
Now, multiply that one photo by THOUSANDS of photos.
Multiply that again by thousands of people viewing thousands of different photos all at the same time.
Huge amounts of bandwidth are used every day by our TGP and our web sites.
It's far from "cheap". That's an understatement!
We came under attack again during October 2007.
This time, remote computers were used to visit all of our galleries and pages at the same moment.
This happened every few minutes over a 24 hour period.
Every time this happened, an information packet called an "icon" was depostited inside our servers.
Such icons are typically the way we track how many visitors we have, which pages are popular.
These icons, however, were mini-time bombs. They began multiplying themselves.
Soon, our servers were telling us that they were full. No more photos or pages could be added.
I knew that was wrong. We have mega-Gigs of space left we haven't used.
We traced these icons back to the group of folks who attacked us in September.
It took a lot of time to remove these "radical icons" from our servers.
We couldn't upload anything new until we got rid of them all.
I then had to write a progam and install it in all of our folders and sub-folders one-by-one to prevent future "icon attacks".
That took time. And, that's why Page 25 of the TGP was delayed; why we got behind publishing new web sites.
New attacks came in November.
They attempted to enter our FTP-server and disable it.
Without an FTP-server, you cannot upload anything to your regular servers.
We managed to thwart this attack and several others that followed that week.
On 26 November 2007 our Apache servers came under attack. We were knocked offline from 2 AM until 1 PM.
The bastards seached our content until they found a URL that we had previously taken offline.
They then used a bank of computers to try to go to that disabled URL all at the same time.
Our Apache servers were soon swamped with 404 ("file not found") error logs. They simply quit working.
My tech (Evan) had to delete over 250,000 error logs then devise a program to prevent this from happening again.
Who's doing this? Who hates TGPWEBKING.CA so much?
We know exactly who they are and where they are.
I cannot be too specific here because they'd like nothing better than to file an international law suit against us.
Even though I am mightily pissed off, and would otherwise welcome a good fight...
...under the conditions of such a suit, the courts could order us offline until the case is resolved.
Something like that could drag on for years.
I CAN however tell you this:
The attacking group is in the USA.
They are well known for being homophobic; for hating and harrassing gays and lesbians.
In fact, I am sure that many of you have seen them in person.
Ever go to a Gay Pride event or a gay civil rights march in the USA?
Do you recall seeing assholes of both genders carrying signs that read:
"God hates Fags"
"God created Adam and Eve..not Adam and Steve
Do you recall them yelling at you, "You're going to burn in hell!"?
Or...."I hope you die of AIDS!"
Remind you of anyone?
Flatly, I wish these damned christians would hurry up and "go to heaven" (or wherever)
And leave us the hell alone!
TGPWEBKING.CA still desperately needs your support to even stay online.
PLEASE do all you can by frequently patronizing TGPWEBKING.CA Video-On-Demand Theatre.
Please partonize our advertisers. Buy their stuff. Help us keep going.
Spread the word. Please encourage your friends to surf our TGP and web sites.
We are not merely enguaged in a battle to preserve ourselves.
In a very real sense, we are fighting for the gay community worldwide.
Here we are sitting in Canada minding our own business... then this happens. :)
If they can take us down, then you can be sure you're on the same list!
UPDATE 27 June 2008:
Our servers and e-mail cluster came under heavy cyber attack in late March 2008.
We managed to fight them off as they continued through April and May.
The attacks attempted to disrupt our DOS files and disable our ability to function online.
At the same time, we began receiving some very nasty e-mails, "You queer" this and that..."you deserve to die."
We traced all of the cyber attacks and e-mails. Many came from various IP addresses in Colorado.
Some originated from other locations but the majority were from subscribers of Level 3 Communications in Colorado.
Even though we contacted Level 3 numerous times, the only response we ever received by phone or e-mail was this:
"We will investigate and warn the person not to do it again."
Personally, I do not believe that any action was ever taken. Events indicate otherwise.
I had to goto our tech centre in Toronto many times to assist Evan in creating new firewalls and defenses.
On 09 May 2008, as I got out of my car at the tech centre, someone yelled, "Die you Webking faggot!"
The bullet entered my back between the lowest two ribs on my left side, passing through the lung and exiting my stomach.
The shooter ran and got away.
As a result, I was hospitalized in a critical condition for over two weeks, enduring three major operations.
The incident is being investigated as a hate crime. It couldn't be anything else.
It is believed that the shooter escaped to the United States. He wasn't Canadian.
It seems to be directly linked with the cyber attacks we encountered and the hate mail.
These "good people" of the christian-skinhead white-power species could not tollerate seeing TGPWEBKING.CA on the web.
On 22 June we relocated our servers and hardware to a new tech facility, behind concrete barriors, walls and razor wire.
It is also one of the most advanced facilities on earth, more technically secure and physically secure that you can imagine.
Evan loves it!
It cost us an arm and a leg, so to speak, but it will be worth it in the long run.
We can do anything now--- and we're going to! Lots of space-age changes are on the way!
Below are A FEW of the attacking IPs that assaulted our computers. Check them out.
All you have to do is goto whois.ws and type it in. It will show you the company that hosts that IP.
The above "cyber attacking" IPs mostly were under the control of Level 3 Communications in Colorado.
Others came from different companies in other geographic regions.
For the first time ever, we are coming under attack from Australia. Just lovely.
The point is this: Nobody at these "Internet Service Provider" companies did a fucking thing to stop the attacks.
In case you haven't noticed-- we're GAY! Tell you anything?
MORE THAN EVER we need your help just to meet expenses and stay online.
Please patronize our advertisers and our video-on-demand theatre. That's how we pay our bills.
Please help by spreading the word, by sending friends to surf here.
Send an e-mail to everyone you know with a link (the web address) to this page so they can read it, too.
These wretched people would like to do you in as much as they want to get rid of me.
They hate gays, lesbians, and bi-sexuals. Bottom line. We desperately need your support.
Help us. They want to force us off the internet. Don't let it happen.
Thanks in advance for helping us fight the good fight.
13-14 July Update:
A large computer bank lauched an attack against our servers generating over a million hits per minute.
No server is designed to hold up to such heavy demand. Everything crashed.
After being offline almost 18 hours, we managed to throttle incoming hits, trace then block the attacking computers' IPs.
Our materials are backed up. Were able to reboot and get back online.
It never stops. Once again, the attack came from the USA... our lovely homophobic "christian" friends in Kansas.
20 August Update:
We are pleased to announce that Level 3 Communications has begun cooperating with us.
Cyber-attackers/hackers have been traced down and knocked off of their IP Network.
Such attackers/hackers go onto a national "service denial" list.
They can never purchase internet access again under their own names or social security number.
More, these people have committed a crime punishable by hefty fines and prison. It's serious stuff.
Few know that such "internet crimes" are overseen by the US Secret Service. And they don't play around.
It's a sad commentary and I hate to say this:
Maybe what it takes to get people of their ass to do the right thing.. IS taking a bullet in the back?
That might have been prevented, headed off.
It wasn't. I suffered the consequences of others' actions/lack of action and their decisions.
And, now, I am one pissed off Webking.
Also note: Yahoo Images has begun cooperating with us as well, closing the gate after the horses got out.
Google Images has yet to respond, but that's why we watermark our images now, isn't it?
If we can continue making our monthly expenses, then we'll stay online and continue growing.
Please return to this page on a regular basis for updates.
Share this with us. There is strength in numbers.
January 2010 Update
During the entire month of January, we have come under constant attack from 27 different computer banks inside Communist China.
Many of these are Chinese Government computers!
In cooperation with Microsoft Corporation, the Communist Chinese government has enguaged in internet censorship.
Quite a shame that a major US firm would participate in such BULLSHIT!!!
The Chinese are trying to block anything politically offensive to their philosophy that they can.
This includes anything religious and everything GAY. We are a chief offender in Communist eyes. Oh, well.
Their cyber attacks caused a one hour disruption on 18 January 2010 but Evan got it quickly under control.
Our security systems are being updated on a daily basis as this "censorship war" continues.
The Chinese are pissed because they've been able to block us within their own country (helped by Microsoft)
but they have been unable to prevent our signals from bathing their territory from space
and they have been unable to intercept and censor
cell phone internet transmissions.
The Chinese solution is to attack our servers hoping to disable and destroy them.
No fortune cookie for you!!
04 February 2010
At approximately 5AM Atlantic Time we discovered that our firewalls had been penetrated by a hacker.
It took quite a lot of skill and the use of an illegal Juarez-programme for him to get in.
The intruder launched a DoS attack (Denial of Service).
The aim of the attack was to destroy our ability to connect to the internet and, at the same time, erase all of our online materials.
We went offline for about 45 minutes as a safety precaution. That allowed us to neutralize the intruder and seal the firewall.
Our automatic back-up systems made sure that none of our pages, movie files, music, or photos were lost.
Moreover, even thought the attacker tried to mask his IP location, we were able to decode that mask.
The information was shared with CIRA (Canadian Internet Regulatory Authority), the U.S. Secret Service and the FBI.
This is being treated as a federal crime in both countries. Grease your ass, boy. You'll be spending a lot of time in prison.
Internet crimes are taken seriously these days. Stick to video games. Hacking and destructive activities will cost you your freedom.
20 JULY 2011
For the second time this year, we have come under attack by hackers in Saudia Arabia.
These attacks have come from freak-asshole Jehadists who wish to impose their Islamic beliefs on the rest of the world.
They tried to superimpose a redirection command over our index files so their materials would display on our sites.
What a shameful unlawful deed that reflects very poorly on Islam! What's wrong with you people??
The hacker named himself as ALM-F16 associated with a trash site at alm1.com -- he is a true cowardly piece of shit!
We traced his routes and associations. They are as follows:
sr@live.com
m@x-44.com
He is in association with the following Saudi Islamic web sites:
falsafh.com
alktheri.com
elrajhi.org
Naturally, the Saudi government and internet authorities have failed to respond to our reports to them.
But the U.S. Department of Homeland Security took keen interest in our information as did CIRA and DOJ.
While we would hate to punish an entire group of people for the acts of a few,
we DO HAVE the ability to block any IP or group of IPs that we wish to block.
Once blocked, no access to our materials or our servers will be possible for anyone in Saudia Arabia.
Remember-- we can and will block you. If necessary, we will block entire countries and regions at a time.
Grow up little boy. Get a life.
Return to this page often for updates.
All the best from,
Webking.
